All cadets demonstrated physical and mental resilience, and successfully navigated through the variety of activities that demonstrated their military and leadership skills, despite the cold and wet weather they endured. Thankfully, the sun came out for the presentation parade where the Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Rick Burr, announced the winners of the Challenge, with the domestic first place award going to the South East Queensland Cadets and the international first place award going to New Zealand.

During the weekend the teams competed in a variety of tasks including navigation, floatation, marksmanship and much more. There were very high levels of comradeship and courage displayed throughout the weekend with the results reflecting these efforts. We have that sorted. We are recruiting now. Just a quick e-mail to say I had the pleasure of working with your unit and Lt. Howell at Linton over the weekend and that they are a credit to your Unit. They were by far the best turned-out syndicate. I would also like to mention WO2 Kareko; in the way he assisted with organising the cadets, his command presence and in his attitude towards helping ensure things were done quickly and efficiently.

It is great to see his ongoing development since meeting him when staffing a JNCO course. The skills competition is an annual competition … More in which army cadet units send a team of 10 to their local three day competition. The winning team from each area will then compete at the National Skills competition three weeks later. The skills competition is designed to test a range of skills that cadets learn in our regular training.

Our unit will be running dedicated competition training's every second weekend until the competition in October. So far we have a good level of interest from our cadets with 15 cadets attending each day this weekend. We will introducing more subjects and going into more depth as we train over the next couple of months. The FET deployed on exercise overseas recently for the first time, and their contribution has been praised by the soldiers they worked alongside.

This contribution is reviewed each year and is refundable on a sliding scale if a cadet withdraws from training. A Living Allowance Scholarship, provided by The Salvation Army, is available to cadets to help meet their personal living costs during training.
