This is a typical New Zealand style holiday park offering a variety of forms of accommodation including sites for mobile homes, cabins and motel style units. Its main attraction is its location next to a well-known Taupo thermal pools complex - a separate business but there are discounts if you are staying at the holiday park.
We were overnighting there on our way north from Wellington to Auckland and didn't expect much more from it than a comfortable quiet place to put our heads down for the night. We stayed in a studio unit which provided all the basics: spotlessly clean, bathroom with a good shower, firm mattress on the king-sized bed, good lighting for reading, and a small kitchen-eating area equipped with microwave and a small stovetop suitable for breakfast or maybe a simple evening meal. There didn't appear to be air conditioning but the unit was well located to catch the evening breezes. The night was warm but we slept comfortably under a single sheet.
Debretts is just off the Napier-Taupo highway on a hill, but far enough away from the road so that the noise of trucks grinding up and down the hill is not obtrusive. Our son and daughter-in-law and our two grandchildren stayed in a cabin nearby with a small bedroom for the grownups and two bunk beds for the children, bathroom and kitchenette.
It was a bit crowded with four adults and two active small children eating takeaways together and would have been more oppressive if the weather had been bad but it was a fine evening and the children could play safely outside. We were rated one of the best holiday parks to stay at in New Zealand according to Wotif reviews. We wish you all the best in your future journeys and hope to see you guys again. Our Cabin although small was great for the price for 2 Adults and 2 teenagers. With a well equipped kitchenette and the shared bathrooms which were close by and kept very clean it was a pleasure to stay here. There are big shared kitchen facilities with fridges, stoves and BBQ's available, all kept clean and in great condition. Town center was close but in season advisable to book your activities ahead of time as there were no 5pm cruises available.

We have a maintenance plan to upgrade these in the near future. We wish you all the best in your future travels and adventures. This camping ground was recommended to us but there are other camping grounds in the town which are more to our taste. It was very well presented, it looked lovely and everything was clean and tidy. The pool, which I understand has been refurbished, was lovely but there was a charge for entry which we found surprising as the charge for the van site was one of the most expensive we have come across.

I found the toilet cubicle quite cramped and the shower could have done with shelf. There is a Unisex block which looked newer and was probably more roomy. Our site was on gravel and was paired with another site so that the two vans were fairly close together. We were also on one of the first sites so that there were a lot of cars coming and going from the cabins, though fortunately this was not a problem that lasted into the night. We did not use any of the other facilities but on a quick glance the kitchen looked good and up to date. This is not meant to be a negative review, there is a lot to like here but it is not for everyone.
